Academic Support
Harbor Science and Arts Charter School has a strong Academic Support Program to meet the needs of our diverse student body. We offer the services of Special Education Teacher Support Services (resource room), counseling, speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and hearing education services to students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through the New York City Department of Education. Certified providers work with these students individually or in small groups to reach the goals on their IEPs and help them gain success in the general education classroom. We also offer these services on an at-risk basis to students who need support in the classroom but do not have IEPs. As with all students at Harbor Charter School, the Academic Support Team maintains high expectations for our students who receive support services.
English Language Learners
Harbor Science and Arts Charter School also offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. Students who speak a language other than English are given direct instruction by a certified instructor. This instructor teaches the students vocabulary and other necessary language skills in order to gain English proficiency, while still celebrating the children’s home languages and cultures.
please feel free to contact Mrs. Robin Ghalleb, our Special Education Coordinator, at (212) 427-2244, extension 655, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
